Real World

Remember MTV's show "Real World".  That's not real.  This is real.

In the past several weeks, we've spent a bunch of money on things we thought we needed to do, on things we had to do, and on things we wanted to do.  Does this stress us out a little?  Yes.  Is it just the Real World and that's how life goes and at the very least, our kids will benefit from it?  Yes, indeed.

We had our trees trimmed.  Buncha money.

Stu needed new tires on the truck.  Buncha money.

I needed new tires on the van.  Buncha money.

We went on our first family trip ever, that we'd been planning since December of 2011.  Buncha, buncha money.

The van's brakes were charred to smithereens maneuvering through mountains on our road trip and we had to get new brake pads and rotors while vacationing in Thermopolis, WY.  Buncha money.

The air conditioner stopped working and needed to be fixed. Buncha money.

The van is making a funny noise now.  Probably more bunchesa money.

Besides spending bunches of money lately, and making lifetime memories for the kids, they've been growing and learning and doing awesome new stuff.

Ryann is reading like a champ.  She is loving taking horseback riding lessons every other week.  Her pony's name is Cupcake.  I have yet to take a photo of her.  This is crazy talk.  I'll be photographing tomorrow.  Ryann now has her own clock radio and listens to Radio Disney at night while falling asleep (taking after Max who started this new thing a few weeks ago).

Yesterday, Max asked, "Mom? Can I have a hug?  Sometimes I just need a hug and when I hug you, I feel so good!"  Max read the first Harry Potter book three times while we were on vacation.  I picked up the second in the series from the library for him yesterday.  He's already done.

Adam has learned fabulous phrases such as, "This is swe-eet!" "Dude, this is totally sweet".  And when he asked what mischief meant the other day, and Stu explained and then asked, "Why?  Are you in mischief right now?", Adam responded, "No".  Stu asked, "Do you get into mischief sometimes?"  Adam responded, with a twinkle in his eye, "Yes!!"

When the air conditioner was not working and Stu set up box fans in the kids rooms, he explained the seriousness of not sticking their fingers in the fan and the importance of following this rule.  Adam answered, "Sometimes I break the rules but this time, I won't!"

Here are a select few photos from Road Trip 2012 (believe me, it was hard to pick only a few):

This is what spending approximately 30 hours in a minivan over the span of a week looks like.

Young children in hotel rooms = insanity

Yes, that is a living, breathing tortoise

Head being eaten by a T-rex!

Look at my reflection in Stu's sunglasses; is it just me or are my arms unnaturally long?!
