An Interview with a Five-Year-Old
Today is Ryann's fifth birthday, though she seems much older. Most of the time she is very mature for her age. Sometimes she acts like a five-year-old (good for her! we're only young once). To commemorate her birthday and her grown up little self, we shall conduct an interview and I will copy her answers verbatim, to preserve for posterity:

3. Why did you stop sucking your thumb?
Because I didn't want to anymore.
4. Do you have a favorite book?
Mm-hm

Yeah. Ariel
7. Do you have a boyfriend?
Yeah. It's Colin.
8. What's the happiest thing that's happened to you in the last year, since you turned four?
I don't know.
9. What's the saddest thing that's happened to you?
A spanking with a wooden spoon (she says, laughing)
10. What's your favorite kind of animal?
A elephant
11. What would you like to be when you grow up?
Hmmmm.hm, hm, hm, hm, hm, hum, hum, hum, hum, (starts singing a made-up song with all "hm's" and "hums")....a parent!

Ten
13. Will you live in Minnesota when you grow up?
Yeah.
14. Why?
Um, well, it's a nice place.
15. What's the last thing you drank today?
Water
16. Who's the last person you gave a hug to?
Mommy

Grammie (laughing)

(counts on her fingers by tapping them to her nose) Six!

20. Are you excited for Kindergarten?
Yeah
21. What's your favorite thing to do when you're alone?
Play with you.

Suddenly, she asks, "Should we go shopping today?" and the interview appears to be over. Time for a nap. Even big five-year-olds need their rest. Especially when they're fighting a cold and need to attend Kindergarten registration that evening.
