Car Conversation
Is it only my children who have the bizzarest (is that a word?) conversations while driving around in the car?
Our conversation just now, on the way home from McDonald's, went like this:
(first some background - Stu and I keep our loose change in an empty ice cream bucket in our bedroom; right now it's nearly full)
Ryann: Mom, you and Dad are so lucky that you got to drive a red Jeep when it was nice and feel the warmth.
Me: Well, when you grow up and get married, you could choose to buy a red Jeep with your husband like Daddy and I did.
Max: What will happen to the money bucket if you and Dad die?
Me: You mean like who will get the money? Hopefully you'll be too busy being sad that Mommy and Dadday are dead to worry about it.
Max: We could pour it over your dead body to show people how much money you had.
Me: Max, that is just weird.
Max: Ok, maybe we'd split it between the three of us. And we'd be sad because our kids wouldn't have a grandma and grandpa...but they'd have great grandparents!
Me: If they're still alive when Mommy and Daddy are dead.
Ryann: Grandma Stu will be. How old is she?
Me: In her 50's.
Max: Early 50's or late 50's?
Me: I'm not sure (wanting to avoid further discussion of Grandma's age)
Ryann: I bet Auntie Nikki will live the longest...she doesn't have any kids.
Me: You think kids shorten your life?
Max and Ryann: Yeah.
Me: Yeah, you're probably right
Ryann: She (referring to Nikki) should go to the doctor to see if there's a baby in her belly.
Max: No, she'd know.
Me: Cuz her belly would start growing?
Ryann: No, the egg would start...
Max cuts her off: The egg would start growing.
Me: Well, the egg needs to be fertilized and then a baby starts growing.
Max: No, the egg grows and then the baby hatches in the mommy's tummy.
Me: No, buddy, that's not how it works for mammals. They have a different kind of an egg than say a chicken.
Then we arrived home and it was time to get out of the car so the conversation was ended...thankfully.
