Snippets Remembered
There are some sweet things each of my children have done when they were small that I don't want to forget. I've been thinking about this a lot lately because Adam is growing out of some of his cute little-kid things and it saddens me a little bit. My baby isn't really a baby anymore. He's definitely an old toddler/young preschooler now. He's almost totally daytime potty trained, can count to 10, knows most of the colors in the rainbow, and can sing a few short songs. He is talking really well, sometimes saying 8 word long sentences. I want to capture some of their cuteness in this snapshot in time before all the exciting things to come fill my memory up and these small things are lost:
Max:
Referred to McDonald's as "DinDonald's" when he was around 18 months.
Fell in love with the book "Peef The Christmas Bear" when he was around 18 months and we had to read it nightly for about 4 months in a row (yes, this was in the summer-time).
Still likes to sleep with his Pooh bear whose red shirt was removed when Max was about 2 years old. Pooh has been naked ever since. If we tried to get him redressed, Max would immediately strip him again.
Decided when he was nearly 3 years old that he needed to sleep on top of "his home" which he explained to me was one of his fleece blankets laid flat over his fitted sheet with the top edge underneath his pillow. Each night he would ask me to "make his home" and then he would leap onto the fleece blankie and snuggle in and I would tuck his covers up over him.
Started reading books in bed when he was 2 and a half for 15-30 minutes or so. Now we're up to sometimes an hour to an hour and a half before he falls asleep.
Ryann:
Also called McDonald's "DinDonald's" or something very similar to that.
Used to give a thumbs up, exclaim "Thumb on the corn!" and then touch thumbs with you when she thought her meal was tasty when she was about 3.
Still sleeps with her "Ellie" the Beanie Baby elephant her daycare family brought to the hospital the day after she was born. When she was 2, Ellie was "Eh-wie" and Ryann would toddle around the house looking for her and calling, "Eh-wie! Eh-wie! Eh-wie!".
Never really played with toys until she was nearing 2 years old. Instead she crawled, and eventually walked, around and observed the humans in the house or manipulated household objects (tables, knick-knacks, chairs, cords, etc.).
Adam:
Calls McDonald's "burger-nugget".
Got "pick up" and "clean up" intermingled in his little brain when he was about 20 months and started referring to both activities as "keek up". Now, after he uses the toilet he says he needs to "keek up" his hands.
Also intermingled in his mind his Nuk pacifier and his little blue blankie he needs to sleep with and when it is sleep time (nap or night time) starts chanting, "Nukkie-bankie!" like that is one word.
Referred to "water" as "wat-ee" and "color" as "cudd-ee" when he was about 20 months. Now "water" and "color" sound more like they should.
Loves getting drinks when he's "firsty" and says that he wants "firsty in his cup" or he wants to get "firsty from the sink" which means he wants to drink water right from the running faucet.
